Norfork splits with Izard County

Norfork and Izard County split their senior high basketball games Thursday night with both number one teams in the state winning, although one had a struggle.

The Lady Panthers, the top ranked team in class 1A, was able to hold off an upset bid and defeat Izard County 59-52. The game was tied at halftime before Norfork to the seven point win. The Lady Panthers improve to 22-4 while the Lady Cougars fall to 16-11. Izard County got 17 points from Alli Marlin, 13 from Bethany Simmons and 11 from Ashlynn Bratcher.

The Izard County boys, also ranked number 1 in class 1A, beat Norfork 76-38. Caleb Faulkner paced the Cougars with 24 points, Coby Everett had 15 and Justus Cooper added 14 points and 14 rebounds as Izard County improves to 25-4 on the season.

In the junior boy’s game, Norfork defeated Izard County 48-40. Gunner Gleghorn scored 20 for the Junior Cougars.

The Viola girls have moved into the championship game of the Thayer Winter Classic after a 69-55 win over Willow Springs. The Lady Longhorns are now 23-4 and take on Thayer in the title game.

The Mammoth Spring girls lost their semifinal game at the Thayer Winter Classic to the host team 61-32. Terra Godwin led the Lady Bears with 11 points as they fall to 11-11 on the season. They will take on Willow Springs for 3rd place.

In junior high hoops, the Cotter junior girls fell at Viola 40-35. Kate Cheek pumped in 23 points the Junior Lady Warriors.

Cotter on the 7th grade game 25-16.
