Saturday will be a busy day for basketball on the local level.
The Izard County Invitational Basketball Tournament will get underway at Melbourne. In junior girls’ action, the host Junior Lady Bearkatz tip off against Cave City at 10 a.m., Salem faces Calico Rock at noon, and Izard County takes on Rural Special at 4:45. On the junior boys’ side, Mammoth Spring plays Izard County at 11:00, Highland will be paired with Cave City at 1:00, and Salem faces Melbourne at 5:45. On the senior girls’ bracket, Salem meets Rural Special at 2:15, and Highland takes on Cave City at 6:45. In the senior boys’ games, Calico Rock plays Rural Special at 3:30, and Melbourne will be matched up with Highland at 8:00.
Mammoth Spring’s boys will complete their run in the Liberty Invitational Varsity Tournament at Mountain View, Missouri. The Bears will meet the host Eagles for third place at 4:30.
In other high school basketball, Gainesville travels to Morrisville to face Marion C. Early, and the Dora boys take on Iberia in Camdenton.
Mountain Home will have several junior high teams in front of the home crowd on the high school campus as Douglas MacArthur comes in from Jonesboro. In the Hangar, the eighth grade boys will begin the action followed by both freshmen contests. Both seventh grade games will be held in the auxiliary gym. The start time in both gyms is set for 1:00.
