An Ozark County man, 35-year-old Brandon Guidry of Thornfield, has been sentenced to three years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The Ozark County Times reports Guidry’s sentence earlier this month follows him entering a guilty plea to charges of child abuse and possession of methamphetamine.

Online court records indicate Guidry’s sentence in Missouri is to run concurrently with another case in Louisiana. However, details on the Louisiana charges are unclear.

In Missouri, his charges stem from an incident in September 2018 when he reportedly abused an 11-year-old child.

According to the probable cause statement, Ozark County deputies arrived at a Thornfield-area residence after a woman told dispatch a physical altercation had occurred between Guidry and the child.

The woman told officers the prior afternoon Guidry and the child got into a verbal altercation over a bicycle. The woman said Guidry became enraged and punched the child in the face with a closed fist. She said he then picked him up by the shirt and struck him in the face again with a closed fist.

A second witness told the officers Guidry then knocked the kid to the ground and began swinging at him with his fists, punching him over and over again.

The woman said she separated the two and told the child to go into the house. The woman said Guidry then told her he would return to the house with a gun, if the family didn’t leave the residence. She said he then left in a vehicle, traveling to his girlfriend’s house.

It’s unclear from the probable cause statement if Guidry is related to the woman and/or the child.

The officers met with the child and noted he had a purple contusion on the left side of his chin, as well as abrasions on his neck. Blood was coming from inside his mouth where the child said he had been punched.

After Guidry’s arrest, officers found a white crystalline substance on him testing positive for methamphetamine.

A note on the probable cause statement indicates Guidry had access to weapons, has a record of being physically violent and had made threats toward family members. The family members reportedly expressed serious concern for their own safety and had said they believed Guidry would retaliate against them if he was released.

He also reportedly threatened law enforcement officers multiple times and said he didn’t feel like he had anything to lose.
