A Baxter County woman, 51-year-old Jill Neal of Gassville, has been charged with felony theft of property after she allegedly sold a prison inmate’s belongings. While the warrant indicates Neal has a Gassville address, online jail records reflect she is a Wasola resident.
According to the probable cause affidavit, last May the victim told a Baxter County Sheriff’s investigator he had been incarcerated in the Arkansas Department of Correction since December 2017.When he returned home, he found most of his belongings had been removed from his residence and storage shed.
The man told law enforcement Neal had moved into his home before his incarceration. However, she was supposed to move out when he left to serve his time.
A neighbor told the former inmate Neal had taken property from the residence, including a log splitter, and had a yard sale at his house.
The victim also learned the identity of a man who might know Neal’s whereabouts. When he located the man, the former inmate found him wearing one of his missing shirts. The man told the victim Neal had left a ladder, air pump and other items at his residence and had given him the shirts.
Further investigation revealed Neal was incarcerated in Springdale.
Neal was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Jan. 16th on a $2,500 bond.
