LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) The director of the state agency that oversees Arkansas’ health insurance exchange has resigned.
Brett Kirkman, chairman of the board for the state Health Insurance Marketplace, said Friday that he was “surprised and disappointed” in the resignation of Angela Lowther.
Lowther said in her resignation letter that she’s pursuing “new opportunities” now that the difficult work of establishing and running the state exchange has concluded.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports her resignation will take effect Feb. 21 but Kirkman says she won’t be required to report to work in the duration. Her annual salary is $150,000.
The Legislature created the marketplace in 2013 to set up exchanges that individual consumers and small businesses would use instead of the federally managed healthcare.gov.
