Local youth compete in area ELKS Hoop Shoot

The Mountain Home ELKS Lodge #1714 held its area finals of the 47th annual ELKS Hoop Shoot this month as several local youth gathered at Bomber Gymnasium at Mountain Home High School for the yearly free throw competition.

On the girls’ side, Flippin’s Samantha Greenhaw won among the 12- and 13-year-olds, and Parker Huskey of Mountain Home was the runner-up. The winner for ages ten and 11 was Jayla Yonkers of Mountain Home, and Hannah Baker of Mountain Home finished second. The eight-to-nine age group title went to Myah McNutt of Cotter, and Mountain Home’s Madelyn Simmons ended up second.

Among the boys, the top two in the 12-to-13 age group are from Gainesville as Easton McGee won the area crown, and Camden Evans was the runner-up. For the ten- and 11-year-olds, Mountain Home’s Chace Berwald finished on top, and Rhett Gilbert of Mountain Home took second place. Mountain Home also represented the top two spots for ages eight and nine as Koen Bickford was the area winner, and Levi Payne ended up second.

The local winners will advance to the state competition to be held in February at Hot Springs.
