Officials say a group of Harrison High School students will face disciplinary action after consuming alcohol on a school bus.The Harrison Daily Times reports Superintendent Dr. Stewart Pratt says a group of student athletes were being transported from the high school to the Cash Center for workouts before school Thursday morning. They were bused due to the cold weather.

He says a small group of those athletes, which included ones from varied sports, had and consumed alcohol on the bus during the trip.

Pratt says they will face discipline, although it wasn’t clear if board of education action would be required.

Pratt explains a plant principal can issue out-of-school suspension for up to 10 days without board action. Any longer time is technically considered an expulsion.

An expulsion hearing must be held before the board. The board can accept the superintendent’s recommendation for expulsion, reject it or modify the recommended punishment.

Pratt says an expulsion hearing is set for Wednesday evening, but it is for a single student not related to the incident at hand.

He also says punishment for the students in the recent incident will probably be meted out next week.
