
There was plenty of basketball as the Mountain Home 7th Grade Basketball Tournament was held Saturday.
Greene County Tech won the boys’ side. The day began with the Seventh Grade Golden Eagles beating Melbourne 39-22 and Southside Batesville topping Bergman 45-12. Melbourne later defeated Bergman 39-30 for fifth place. Mountain Home fell to Tech in the semifinals 31-29, and Paragould squeaked by Southside 27-26. Mountain Home later finished fourth place after getting edged out by Southside 24-22. Tech was a 33-28 winner over Paragould in the title game.
The girls’ championship went to Paragould after a round robin format. The Seventh Grade Lady Rams beat Mountain Home 43-14, Mammoth Spring 32-16 and Melbourne 39-11. Mammoth Spring was able to top Mountain Home and Melbourne to finish second.
The Mountain Home freshmen squads had a rough outing in Jonesboro as they were swept by Annie Camp.
The Junior Bombers lost the boys’ game 44-18 to the Whirlwinds. Mountain Home falls to 4-19 on the season.
Mountain Home did not fare any better in the girls’ contest. The Junior Lady Bombers lost to Annie Camp 40-10.
Both Mountain Home teams will return to Jonesboro Monday to face Nettleton.
Mountain Home Christian Academy picked up two wins as they hosted Little Rock for three games.
The Eagles beat up on the Flames 79-56 in the varsity boys’ game. Matt Woods led Mountain Home Christian with 20 points, Caleb Spray scored 18, and Cooper Long added 17.
Mountain Home Christian was not as fortunate in the varsity girls’ contest as they fell to Little Rock 69-37. The Lady Eagles were led by Naomi Spray with 20 points.
The day began with the 14-and-under boys’ game as Mountain Home Christian routed Little Rock 71-25. Trenton Cox was the 14-and-under Eagles’ top scorer with 27 points, and Landon Jines chipped in 16.
