The heavy rain early Thursday morning set a new record and has resulted in the Buffalo River hitting flood stage. Several lines of showers and thunderstorms moved through the area during the morning with 2.39 inches of rain recorded by 7:00 a.m. at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home. That is the new daily rainfall record for the date, eclipsing the old record of 2.23 inches in 1921.
The heavy rainfall has resulted in the Buffalo River reaching flood stage at one of its gauges. The gauge at Pruitt Thursday morning was at 11.15, while the flood stage is 8.28. The Buffalo River at three other gauges at Boxley, St. Joe and Harriett is listed as high, but not at flood stage.
