The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results as they went to Marion on Tuesday. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
The Lady Bombers completed the season sweep over the Lady Patriots with a 52-45 victory. The game began in a low-scoring manner as the first quarter ended in an 8-8 tie. Marion scored the next point on a free throw by Keiana Delaney, but Mountain Home answered with a 12-0 run and went into the locker room up 13. The Lady Patriots cut the margin back to six in the second half, but they would get no closer as the Lady Bombers committed only three turnovers in the game and went on to win by seven.
Kate Gilbert led Mountain Home with 22 points. For Marion, Mikiya McAdory scored 14 points, and Joi Montgomery added 13.
The Lady Bombers improve to 15-9 on the season and 7-4 in the 5A-East and are currently tied for second in the league with Jonesboro. The Lady Patriots fall to 13-12 and 5-6.
It was a different result in the boys’ contest as Mountain Home lost to Marion 57-26. There was one tie in the game at 2-2, but the Patriots took over from there as they scored the remaining 17 points of the opening period. Marion continued to dominate as the mercy rule was invoked at the beginning of the final quarter.
No one was in double figures for the Bombers. The Patriots were led by Timothy Ceasar with 14 points, Trystan Haymon had 12, and Keyshawn Woods chipped in 11.
Mountain Home drops to 8-15 overall and 3-7 in conference play. Marion is now 18-3 and 11-0.
Mountain Home returns to the Hangar Friday for Sweetheart Royalty night. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will play host to Nettleton.
In other 5A-East boys’ action, Greene County Tech got past Searcy 64-59, West Memphis defeated Jonesboro 55-41, and Nettleton topped Paragould 80-64.
On the girls’ side, Tech routed Searcy 80-35, Jonesboro beat West Memphis 47-38, and Nettleton was a 54-39 winner over Paragould.
