Norfork girls, Izard County boys among district tournament winners

Saturday was a busy day for high school basketball in the Twin Lakes Area as several area teams were in district tournament play.

The 1A-2 District Tournament came to an end at Izard County High School in Brockwell with both the top seeds winning the the crown.
Norfork’s girls were able to capture another district championship. The Lady Panthers defeated Viola 65-57.
The Izard County boys topped Calico Rock 86-45 for their fifth consecutive district title. Justus Cooper led the host Cougars with 24 points, Coby Everett scored 21, and Caleb Faulkner added 18. Izard County improves to 35-4 on the season.

Timbo’s boys captured the championship of the 1A-5 District Touranment in front of the home crowd. The top-seeded Tigers beat Greers Ferry West Side 71-56.

Jasper had mixed results as they hosted the final night of the 1A-1 District Tournament.
The Pirates wrapped up the evening by keeping the boys’ championship trophy on campus. Jasper picked up a 62-44 victory over the New School.
The Jasper girls finished the tournament as runners-up. The Lady Pirates fell to top-seeded Alpena 50-32.

Valley Springs left Clinton with both championship trophies of the 3A-1 East District Tournament.
The Lady Tigers began by beating the number one seed on the girls’ side. Valley Springs got past Mountain View 54-48.
Valley Springs’ boys went into the tournament as the top-seeded team. The Tigers defeated Clinton 40-29.

Harrison finished hosting the 4A-1 District Tournament by sweeping Pea Ridge.
The Goblins captured the boys’ title. Harrison was able to beat the Blackhawks by a score of 51-39.
The Harrison girls finished in third place in the tournament. The Lady Goblins edge out Pea Ridge 47-43.

District play began Saturday in Missouri, and Gainesville had a rough day to open the Class 2, District 9 Tournament at Hartville.
The Lady Bulldogs were one and done after losing to Norwood 64-36. Gainesville’s season ends at 10-15.
Gainesville did not fare any better on the boys’ side as they fell to top-seeded Mansfield 73-56. The Bulldogs’ final record is 5-21.

Lutie’s boys watched their season end in the Class 1, District 4 Tournament at Marshfield after losing to Chadwick 65-23. The Indians finish the year at 3-20.
