Cotter FBLA students helped make Valentine’s Day a little brighter for some hospitalized children this year by donating over 100 stuffed animals and handmade cards. The students visited children at Mercy Children’s Hospital in Springfield.
FBLA members Abby Derden, Mai Tathong and Afton Massey had placed donation boxes at Shabby 2 Chic Salon and Petkovich Family Dentistry for several weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day to collect the stuffed animals for the patients.
Ashley Wilson, a child life services manager at Mercy, says the donation was used during the hospital’s Valentine’s Day party. Because so many stuffed animals were collected, some of them were sent to other St. Jude affiliated hospitals for their patients.
Cotter FBLA sponsor Andrea Kray says it was Massey who wanted to start the project after visiting family at Mercy Children’s Hospital.
