Flippin, Yellville-Summit boys among Thursday’s regional winners

The first round of regional play came to an end Thursday for high school basketball in Arkansas, and three local teams played their openers in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Danville.
Flippin’s boys were able to clinch a state tournament berth. The Bobcats edged out Hackett by a final of 34-31.
Yellville-Summit also advanced to the boys’ semifinals. The Panthers squeaked by Lavaca 60-59.
Flippin’s girls watched their season come to an end. The Lady Bobcats fell to Hector by a score of 46-31.

The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament wrapped up its opening round at Calico Rock.
The Viola girls dominated the first game of the day. The Lady Longhorns routed Hillcrest 63-39.
Izard County was one-and-done on the girls’ side. The Lady Cougars lost to Maynard 49-46.
Calico Rock’s boys were able to move on to the semifinals. The host Pirates defeated Crowley’s Ridge Academy 52-42.
Western Grove was also victorious on the boys’ side. The Warriros topped Ridgefield Christian 59-52.

The first round of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament came to an end at Mountain View.
The host Lady Yellowjackets will be advancing to next week’s state tournament. Mountain View beat Elkins 63-41.
Bergman was bounced from the tournament in the other girls’ contest. The Lady Panthers fell to Lincoln 59-49.
The Bergman boys’ season also ended on Thursday. The Panthers lost to Elkins 65-63 in double overtime.

Harrison’s girls clinched a state tournament bid after their first game in the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at Morrilton. The Lady Goblins picked up a 66-48 decision over Pottsville.

The Jasper girls started off with a win in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at County Line High School in Branch. The Lady Pirates defeated Scranton 52-46.

In Missouri, two local boys’ teams took part in the Class 1, District 3 Tournament at Cabool.
Bakersfield’s season came to an end as they fell to Eminence 62-36. The Lions’ final record for the year is 10-14.
Dora will be the Redwings’ opponent in Saturday’s title game. The top-seeded Falcons beat up on Koshkonong 90-50. Dora improves to 26-1 on the season.

Mountain Home Christian Academy sent three teams to Forsyth to face another set of Eagles from Riverview Christian for three non-conference games.
Mountain Home Christian nearly doubled up Riverview Christian 51-25 in the varsity girls’ game. Naomi Spray led MHCA with 21 points, and Hayley Woods added 18.
MHCA did not fare as well in the varsity boys’ contest as they were edged out by Riverview Christian 69-67. Mountain Home Christian was led by Caleb Spray with 18 points, and Cooper Long chipped in 16.
MHCA dominated the 14-and-under boys’ game with a 72-39 victory. Jordan Woods was Mountain Home Christian’s top scorer with 19 points, and Trenton Cox had 16.
