A woman from Cotter has been arrested for allegedly stealing a ring from a deceased man she cared for. Fifty-year-old Connie Yvonne McCollum is alleged to have taken the ring in June of last year, after the man had died and his wife was residing in an assisted living facility due to medical issues. McCollum had been a caregiver for the couple. The ring was the man’s 25th anniversary retirement ring from Ranger Boats valued at $2,150.

The wife discovered the ring had been stolen when a man was arrested in Marion County who had the ring in his possession. He told investigators he had bought the ring from McCollum for $50 worth of “dope” but the ring was sold for scrap and melted down.

McCollum is charged with a felony count of theft of property. She is free on $2,500 bond.
