
Regional tournament play continued on Friday for high school basketball in Arkansas, and three local teams took part in the semifinals of the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Danville.
Cotter had a rough night on the girls’ bracket. The Lady Warriors fell to the the host Lady Little Johns 46-32.
Flippin’s boys were also sent to the third place game. The Bobcats lost to Eureka Springs by a final of 52-38.
Yellville-Summit will be the Highlanders’ opponent in the title game. The Panthers topped Mountainburg 51-43.
The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament held its semifinal round at Calico Rock.
The Norfork will be playing for another regional title. The Lady Panthers picked up a 72-54 victory over Maynard.
Viola will be Norfork’s next opponent after they defeated Mammoth Spring 65-44. Lauren Mitchell was the Lady Bears’ top scorer with 15 points, Terra Godwin ended up with 14, and Megyn Upton added 11. Mammoth Spring drops to 15-16 on the season.
The Calico Rock boys fell just short of advancing to the finals. The Pirates were edged out by Hillcrest 51-49.
Izard County will be the Screamin’ Eagles next matchup after they beat Western Grove 78-50. Justus Cooper paced the Cougars with 26 points and 22 rebounds, Coby Everett scored 22 points, and Caleb Faulkner chipped in 17 points. Izard County improves to 37-4 on the year.
Melbourne’s girls moved on to the championship game of the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Rector. The Lady Bearkatz invoked the mercy rule as they routed Marmaduke 67-37.
Two area teams competed in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament at Mount Vernon-Enola.
Timbo suffered an upset in Friday’s semifinals. The Tigers lost to the host Warhawks by a score of 55-46.
Rural Special did not fare any better on the girls’ side. The Lady Rebels fell to Mount Vernon-Enola 70-53.
Mountain View hosted the semifinals of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament.
The host Lady Yellowjackets were able to move on to the title game. Mountain View posted the 56-43 decision over Charleston.
Valley Springs will be the Lady Yellowjackets’ last opponent in the tournament. The Lady Tigers topped Lincoln 46-33.
The Valley Springs boys will join their female counterparts in the finals. The Tigers squeaked by Elkins 55-51.
Harrison’s girls will be able to play for the championship of the Class 4A North Regional Tournament after they semifinal victory at Morrilton. The Lady Goblins upset Farmington 68-55.
Jasper ended up with a split in the semifinals of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at County Line High School in Branch.
The Lady Pirates dominated their way to the title game. Jasper pounded St. Paul 56-31.
It was a different result for Jasper on the boys’ bracket. The Pirates were edged out by Deer 50-49.
