Willam Snyder/TrinifoldBrian Kehew, a Los Angeles-based musician who serves as The Who‘s keyboard technician and also pens the group’s “Backstage Blog,” writes in a new post that the band’s upcoming Moving On! orchestral tour of North America will offer fans something different.

“It’s being planned day-by-day already, with some things falling into place, and other completely unknown,” Kehew reports, adding, “If you’ve already seen The Who one hundred times in your life, you will not have seen this show before.”

Brian explains that the new show may include changes in instrumentation, band members, lighting, video and stage setup.

He also points out that while the addition of an orchestra will offer “a complex and mighty sound,” singer Roger Daltrey “also wants the show to have a ‘return to the start’ smaller feeling.”

Kehew continues, “We will see all of what we loved in the past, and probably some stunning moments of newness; many moments where you’ll say ‘I have never seen that before’ at your many Who shows.”

Brian says the new ideas that are being incorporated into the show are the very reason why Daltrey and Pete Townshend “have agreed to tour again…to move beyond what we know is comfortable and safe into something that could be much more emotional and powerful.”

In the blog, Kehew also reports on Daltrey’s three solo performances during the recent Rock Legends Cruise VII. “I must tell you Roger is sounding GREAT,” says Brian. “Not good, but GREAT.”

The post also includes links to a couple of fan-shot videos of Daltrey performing on the cruise.

The Who’s Moving On! tour kicks off May 7 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Visit TheWho.com to check out all of the dates.
