Four area high school basketball teams began state tournament play on Wednesday.
Rural Special’s girls were victorious in the opening round of the Class 1A State Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell. The Lady Rebels defeated Blevins by a final of 77-56.
Three area teams took the court in the Class 3A State Tournament at Osceola.
The Mountain View girls advanced to the quarterfinals with a 62-41 victory over Two Rivers. The Lady Yellowjackets will play Friday evening against the winner of Thursday’s game between Harding Academy and Ashdown.
Valley Springs watched their season come to an end in the next girls’ game. The Lady Tigers fell to Atkins 56-41.
Valley Springs fared better on the boys’ side as they topped Fountain Lake 64-55. The Tigers will meet either Osceola or Helena-West Helena Friday in the quarterfinals.
