JONESBORO, Ark. (3/1/19) The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2019 composite football schedule Friday, and Arkansas State will have a nationally-televised midweek home game while also closing its regular season with four of its last six games at Centennial Bank Stadium against conference opponents.
Along with its previously announced non-conference slate, the Red Wolves will have five home Saturday games on its schedule. They will open the season in Jonesboro for the fifth time over the last seven years when they face SMU on Aug. 31, but will also host Saturday games against Southern Illinois on Sept. 21, Texas State on Oct. 26, Coastal Carolina on Nov. 16 and Georgia Southern on Nov. 23.
A-States lone midweek game will be played Thursday, Oct. 17, against Sun Belt rival Louisiana at Centennial Bank Stadium. The game is set to be televised to a national audience on ESPNU.
Winners in 25 of its last 32 Sun Belt road games, the Red Wolves will begin their conference schedule with a pair of games at Troy and Georgia State on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, respectively. A-State will then play back-to-back home contests against the Ragin Cajuns and Texas State before hitting the road again for a Nov. 2 outing at Louisiana-Monroe.
Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern will travel to Jonesboro for A-States two home games in the month of November, and the Red Wolves will then close out their regular season Nov. 30 at South Alabama.
The Sun Belt Conference championship game will be played Saturday, Dec. 7, on the home field of the team with the best league record.
In addition to its home and season opener against SMU and September home game against Southern Illinois, A-State will play also non-conference games at UNLV and Georgia on Sept. 7 and Sept. 14, respectively.
A-State, one of three programs in the Group of 5 to play in at least eight consecutive bowl games, has strung together 14 consecutive years (2005-18) with a winning record at Centennial Bank Stadium. It is now 64-15 (.810 winning percentage) since the 2005 season when playing in Jonesboro.
