The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team is one win away from punching their ticket to the state championship game in Hot Springs. The Lady Bombers won their quarterfinal game in the Class 5A State Tournament as they eliminated Russellville 62-57.
The two teams exchanged a few leads in the early going, but Mountain Home ended each of the first two quarters with a six-point advantage. By the end of the third period, that margin was up to 14, but the Lady Cyclones came storming back in the final quarter. Russellville forced the Lady Bombers into some key turnovers as they eventually cut their deficit back to one, but Mountain Home was able to hit some key free throws down the stretch as they went on to win by five.
Kate Gilbert led the Lady Bombers with 18 points, Payton Huskey scored 16, and Addison Yates added 14. For the Lady Cyclones, Cara Davis had 16 points, Makayla Ealy finished with 12, and Anna Myers chipped in 11.
Mountain Home advances to Saturday night’s semifinal action with a record of 19-10. Russellville’s season ends at 17-11.
