LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) An Arkansas lawmaker has proposed expanding the state’s secrecy surrounding its execution drugs to prevent officials from releasing any information that would “directly or indirectly” identify makers and suppliers of its lethal injection drugs.
Republican Sen. Bart Hester on Monday filed the proposal that would keep even more information secret about the state’s lethal injection drugs. Republican Attorney General Leslie Rutledge had been working on the proposal in response to court rulings that a 2015 law doesn’t exempt the identity of the state’s execution drugs.
Arkansas doesn’t have any executions scheduled and its supply of lethal injection drugs has expired. State prison officials have said they won’t search for any new drugs until the execution drug secrecy law is expanded to include manufacturers.
