LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Little Rock police say an officer who fatally shot the driver of a vehicle that was accelerating toward him has been relieved of duty.
Police spokesman Lt. Michael Ford said Friday that Officer Charles Starks isn’t working while he is being investigated for killing 30-year-old Bradley Blackshire. A spokeswoman for the mayor says Starks is being paid but has surrendered his badge and gun.
Video released by police shows that Starks fired at least 15 times into the windshield of Blackshire’s car after he tried to drive away on Feb. 22.
Starks, who is white, was responding to a call asking for officers after Blackshire’s car was alerted to police as being stolen. Blackshire, who was black, died at the scene.
