MONTICELLO, Ark. (AP)   Federal and state authorities are investigating the death of a bald eagle that was found shot in southeast Arkansas last month.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says the adult bird was found dead on March 28 near a road west of Monticello.

The female eagle was taken to the Little Rock Zoo where veterinary staff determined a gunshot was the preliminary cause of death. Authorities say the eagle was likely tending its nest when someone shot it.

Law enforcement is offering a $6,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible and is asking anyone with knowledge of what happened to contact the commission’s anti-poaching hotline.
