
Mountain Home High School senior Breanna Hickmott’s painting of a wood duck has been selected as “Best of Show” in the Arkansas Junior Duck Stamp Conservation contest.Hickmott will receive a scholarship from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. Her her painting has been sent to the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation Program in Maryland, where it will be judged on April 19th alongside entries from the other 49 states. The winning artwork will be featured on next year’s Junior Duck Stamp — a $5 stamp that is highly sought after and collectible.
Hickmott, who plans to attend the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, got the inspiration for her acrylic painting after looking over a list of ducks that live in Arkansas. She chose the wood duck, because she believed it was the prettiest duck in the state.
The Mountain Home High School senior says she feels very honored to have been chosen best of show, and she appreciates the knowledge she gained from painting such a beautiful duck.
Hickmott’s high school art teacher Beth Ivens said she applauded her student’s commitment to completing this painting in addition to her regular assignments.
Ivens says she is proud of Hickmott for taking on the extra workload, because this time of year being a senior — she is very busy, and this was something that was optional. Ivens said the senior stepped up, and got the reward for it.
