Mountain Home Public Schools will host kindergarten registration Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The registration process will take approximately one hour and will be held at the Mountain Home Kindergarten Center at 1310 Post Oak Road. Parents are welcome to bring their children to this event, but no student screening will take place during registration.
Students set to enter kindergarten must turn 5 years old on or before Aug. 1st. Required documents included birth certificate or official hospital record, Social Security card, immunization record or appointment card and a kindergarten physical or appointment card.
For those residing outside the boundaries of the Mountain Home Public Schools district, School Choice applications are available at the Central Office. The due date for submitting the applications is May 1st.
Mountain Home Public Schools offers an after school program for students in kindergarten through second grade from 3 until 6 at $5 per day. Parents can select the number of days for their children to attend.
According to Kindergarten Principal Janet Wood, based on the current number of students in local pre-schools, the number of kindergarten students is expected to increase for the 2019-20 school year.
Wood says registering at the Mountain Home Kindergarten early will be very beneficial in giving the school district employees ample time to secure more highly qualified teachers if the need arises. Also, the sooner they know about students, the better it helps them plan for necessary accommodations and to place students in appropriate classrooms.
Wood also notes the school partnered with Arkansas State University-Mountain Home to provide a free Class of 2032 t-shirt to the first 275 students who register for kindergarten.
