LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) The Arkansas Legislature has approved a bill designed to curb children’s interest in medical marijuana by restricting its advertising.
The Senate voted 33-0 Monday in favor of the bill, which codifies already existing rules in the state’s Alcohol Beverage Control guidelines.
Those voting in favor of the measure representing North Central Arkansas were Senators Scott Flippo of Bull Shoals, Missy Irvin of Mountain View, James Sturch of Batesville and Breanne Davis of Russellville.
Medical marijuana dispensaries cannot advertise using content or symbols which might target children, including cartoon characters or toys. They also must limit their television, radio, print and internet advertising to audiences which are less than 30 percent children. And, they can’t advertise within 1,000 feet of a public or private school or daycare center.
The bill also prohibits dispensaries from using medical symbols, like a cross, and stipulates that advertisements must contain one of four medical warnings.
Cultivation facilities will not be allowed to advertise to the public.
