LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Arkansas’ governor has signed into law legislation
that details his plan to cut the number of departments answering directly to him.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson also has named a transition team to help implement the
agency reorganization.
The bill that Hutchinson signed Thursday cuts the number of cabinet-level
departments from 42 to 15. The Republican governor has touted the measure as the largest reorganization of the Arkansas state government in almost 50 years.
Hutchinson first proposed the reorganization last year.
Hutchinson also named a 16-member Transformation Transition Team, a group of state employees that will help implement the new law. Hutchinson’s office says the team will begin work Monday and wrap up its work no later than July 31st.
