BRYANT, Ark. (AP)   Heavy rainfall has caused flash flooding that’s prompted the shutdown of a major interstate in central Arkansas and the closure of several schools in the Little Rock area.

The National Weather Service says 3 to 5 inches of rain have fallen in the Little Rock area since late Wednesday. The Arkansas Department of Transportation temporarily closed Interstate 30 southwest of Little Rock because high water was on the road, but it reopened by midday Thursday.

Forecasters say additional rainfall is likely during the day Thursday, which means flood waters will be slow to recede.

Several schools in and around Little Rock were closed Thursday because of road closures.
