ABC/Image Group LAThis week, Brett Young earns his fourth consecutive number one on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart with “Here Tonight,” a song he wrote with Charles Kelley while on tour with Lady Antebellum back in 2017.

And while the California native tries to not be overly concerned with how his songs are doing on the charts, he admits it becomes nearly impossible when it’s a tune you wrote with your pals.

“I used to say I would never watch the charts,” Brett tells ABC Radio. “Then we got our first number one, and the charts got really fun to watch,” he smiles.

“You know, it becomes more fun when the other writers on the song are friends of yours,” he adds. “I got three buddies that I wrote this song with.”

“Every Monday when a new chart comes out,” Brett explains, “there’s a group text, and everybody’s getting excited and offering to buy each other beers or whatever it may be. And you root for each other all the time… And you know, if it’s doing well on the charts, it means the fans are enjoying it.”

It turns out there may be more songs like “Here Tonight” for the fans to enjoy.

“It was the beginning of a really fun thing with Charles,” Brett reflects. “We’ve written together since… Anytime I have writers out and we’re on a Lady A show with them, he’ll jump on.”

“But it was our first one, and you know, it made the record and ended up being the first single, so it was pretty fun,” he concludes.

Charles will soon have a new single of his own. Look for Lady A’s new song, “What If I Never Get Over You,” in the near future.
