The Lost Valley Area of the Buffalo National River has reopened. Lost Valley initially closed in early December last year to begin an extensive improvement project that aimed to reduce flood potential, address visitor safety and area accessibility. In addition to a newly constructed parking area, the Lost Valley entrance road was rerouted to avoid flooding from nearby Clark Creek.Contractors also added an Architectural Barriers Act-compliant parking, trail and access road. The National Park Service says these features will make the Lost Valley experience more accessible for visitors of all abilities.
To celebrate the grand reopening, Buffalo National River will offer a ranger-guided hike Saturday afternoon at 1 starting at the trailhead in the new parking lot. Pets are not permitted on the Lost Valley Trail, but pet-friendly alternatives can be found at nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/pets.
