Local teams have mixed results in 3A-1 East district openers

The 3A-1 East District Baseball Tournament began Monday in Clinton. Marshall fell to the host Yellowjackets 17-1, and Bergman was edged out by Valley Springs 4-3.

Elsewhere, Gainesville had a successful road trip. The Bulldogs ended up shutting out Norwood 4-0.

Salem wrapped up its regular season with a road victory. The Greyhounds doubled up Walnut Ridge 4-2.

Izard County’s offense shined in non-conference play. The Cougars defeated Cave City by a score of 10-6.

Omaha dominated its doubleheader with Alpena at Harrison. The Eagles took the first game 16-2 and later won the nightcap 18-1.

Clinton also began hosting the 3A-1 East District Softball Tournament. Marshall lost to the host Lady Yellowjackets 11-1, Mountain View routed Green Forest 16-1, and Bergman fell to Valley Springs 15-0.

In other softball action, Viola picked up another conference victory at home. The Lady Longhorns beat Calico Rock 10-0.

Melbourne had a rough outing in its regular season finale. The Lady Bearkatz lost to Southside Batesville 11-1.
