Wednesday marks the start of the 40th Annual Health Fair and Expo at the Baxter County Fairgrounds. KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot will partner with Baxter Regional Medical Center for the two-day event to promote a “healthy, active lifestyle.”

The doors will open to the public Wednesday morning at 7:30, with BRMC departments and area vendors available until 7 to provide helpful and healthful information. In addition, free lab screenings for cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, prostate cancer and diabetes or prediabetes will be offered until 1. A 12-hour fast is recommended for accurate results, and those taking part in the screenings are asked not to eat or drink anything except water or black coffee.

A new interactive event for children and their families will be open from 3 until 7. The Teddy Bear Clinic is designed to help children become more comfortable with basic checkup procedures, equipment and care providers. Kids are encouraged to bring teddy bears for a checkup or minor surgeries to repair rips, reattach eyes or limbs and other procedures. If a child does not bring a teddy bear, the clinic will have bears available for “adoption.”

Food will also be available free of charge beginning in the late morning. Chicken fajitas will be grilled beginning at 11 and will be served until they are gone.
