An Izard County woman was injured Saturday evening in a two-vehicle accident in the Jordan area. According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 77-year-old Wilma Galloway of Calico Rock was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center from the scene on County Road 63, also known as Norfork River Road.

A deputy was dispatched to the scene a quarter mile west of Whispering Woods Cabins where he observed a gray compact car facing north in the westbound lane and a black pickup truck in the ditch line of the same lane. The driver of the car, identified as Galloway, was being assisted by ambulance and Jordan Fire Department personnel.

The driver of the truck, identified as 41-year-old James Robert Cox Jr. of Calico Rock, said he was traveling in the westbound lane when he observed Galloway’s vehicle traveling east, but she was reportedly in the westbound lane. Cox stated he started to maneuver into the ditch line and slow his vehicle down, but his attempt to avoid a collision was unsuccessful. Cox added the impact was to the left rear of the vehicle near the wheel well.

Cox was accompanied in his truck by his wife, 39-year-old Elizabeth Cox, his 13-year-old son and a 15-year-old female friend. Cox said he and his three passengers were not injured in the collision.

Both vehicles sustained an estimated $7,000 in damage in the 9:10 p.m. accident.
