Man killed after alleged shootout with authorities in Douglas County

An officer-involved shooting has been reported in Douglas County. According to KYTV/KSPR, one man was killed in a shootout with authorities near Vanzant.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is reporting police officers in Cabool attempted to stop a car for a possible driving while intoxicated, but the driver allegedly opened fire on the officers. A pursuit began and entered Douglas County, and Douglas County deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers joined in the chase.

The suspect reportedly fired on authorities several more times as the chase continued. The pursuit eventually left the roadway near Vanzant, and gunfire was exchanged. The suspect was hit and died at the scene. His name has not been released.

A Douglas County deputy and two Cabool police officers are now on routine leave pending the results of the investigation being conducted by Douglas County authorities.
