Blaine Clausen/Concord Records; RCA RecordsZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons and blues legend Buddy Guy were among the artists who took home trophies at the 40th Blues Music Awards, held Thursday at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

Gibbons won the Blues Rock Album award for his 2018 solo effort, The Big Bad Blues. He also was nominated for the Blues Rock Artist prize, but lost out to Eric Gales.

Guy nabbed the Traditional Blues Album honor for his latest record, The Blues Is Alive and Well. One of the songs on the album, “Cognac” — which features guest guitar work from Jeff Beck and Keith Richards — received a nod for Song of the Year, but the honor went to Ben Harper‘s “No Mercy in This Land.”

For a second year in a row, E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt hosted the ceremony. Among this year’s presenters were Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Maria Muldaur.
