Since becoming the Fulton County roads and streets improvement coordinator earlier this year, Milan Novak says he has hit a proverbial wall when it comes to keeping in step with his job title. So much so, he has decided to take up the cause of finding a way to bring more revenue to Fulton County and has taken the first step in the process for voters to consider a wet/dry initiative.
Areawide Media reports after reviewing the budget, Novak says it is impossible to improve roads and streets without additional funding. He approached Fulton County Judge Jim Kendrick about the quandary, and a discussion began to find solutions.
Novak says he told Judge Kendrick he wanted to launch a wet/dry initiative. Novak says after being advised he could not take this action on the county’s time, he is pursuing the initiative on his off time. He has taken the first step of filing a petition with the county clerk.
Novak says he has been contacted by approximately 60 residents of Fulton County since announcing he was taking on the project.
He says the wet/dry initiative is the only potential solution he could come up with to help generate more revenue.
Novak says Fulton County voters just passed a tax in December for law enforcement, so he felt confident another tax would not pass.
While he says some people are against taking the county wet due to religious convictions, for those already purchasing alcohol, passing the initiative would keep the dollars in Fulton County.
Novak said he still plans to pursue the wet/dry issue for the 2020 election, but is open to any solutions or suggestions for generating funding for improvements to county roads.
He has created an email account, fultonroads@gmail.com, for those would like to contact him and made his cellphone number, 870-710-0237, available.
Novak says he’s tired of just patching roads. He says without additional revenue, it will continue to be status quo, and he doesn’t want to see that continue.
