The Arkansas Activities Association’s remaining state championships for the 2018-2019 school year will be decided this weekend. Viola’s baseball team was originally scheduled to play Saturday for the Class 1A state title, but their game against Taylor has been moved to Monday on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Longhorns’ head coach Clayton Gardner says the team and the community are all excited about this weekend’s game.

Viola brings a 25-7 record into the game. This will be the Longhorns’ sixth appearance in the state finals, with the most recent trip coming three years ago. Viola has won two state championships in 1998 and 1999.

The Longhorns will be facing a Taylor program who also has a rich tradition in high school baseball. The Tigers, currently 21-7 on the year, are making their 10th title game appearance. Taylor has won five state championships, with the most recent in 2013. Gardner says the Tigers are almost always in the title hunt for a reason.
