Power has been restored to all of North Arkansas Electric Cooperative’s members. According to NAEC Marketing and Communications Director Tori Moss, personnel connected the mobile substation and restored electricity to the 1,153 members served by the Southland Substation around 12:45 Saturday morning.

The outage began during Friday’s early morning hours after the substation caught fire. Lightning is the suspected cause of the fire.

The cooperative will rebuild the substation over a period of months while the mobile unit from the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation temporarily serves the area. The Southland Substation is located on Pebblecreek Drive off the Sheid-Hopper Bypass.

With the mobile unit connected, power has been restored at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County. The library will open at 10 a.m. Saturday for regular business hours, and the Activated Story Theater will begin at 10:30 as scheduled.
