It’s been nine months since the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office made changes to its fine collection system. The sheriff’s office switched from a handwritten ledger system to a computerized system that Sheriff John Montgomery says has made receiving payments easier and faster.
It’s the duty of the sheriff’s office to receive payments of fines, court costs and restitution handed down by a judge in Baxter County Circuit Court. Sheriff Montgomery says in the past, his office would handwrite payments received in manual receipt books, and they had several in their possession.

The sheriff adds they have not had any drawbacks to the new system. He says with the software, someone coming in to make a payment can normally be in and out of the office within two minutes.
