Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival set for Friday, Saturday

The 22nd annual Buffalo River Elk Festival will be held Friday and Saturday on the Jasper square.The festival features drawings for the 2019 Arkansas Game & Fish Commission elk hunt permits. Permits will be drawn hourly beginning at noon on Saturday.

The two-day event kicks off Friday with musical entertainment by Modern August at 12:30, Rio at 3:15, Hemmed In Hollow at 5, Relentless at 6:45 and the Little Buffalo River Band at 8:30 p.m. All musical entertainment will be held on the courthouse square.

There will be a wide variety of vendors selling refreshments, arts and crafts both days.

Other events on Saturday include the Kids Fishing Derby at 8 a.m., an elk calling contest at noon and the Dutch oven cook-off judging at 1.

Music will also be featured Saturday on the festival stage by the Hedley Lamar Band at 5:15, The Crumbs at 7 and Whistling Dixie at 8:45.

The festival’s finale will be the fireworks display at 9:50 Saturday evening, followed by more Whistling’ Dixie.
