Jim Dyson/Getty ImagesThe Cure has been working on a new album for the first time in a decade, and frontman Robert Smith is making it his mission to release it before the year is over.
“I feel intent on it being a 2019 release and would be extremely bitter if it isn’t,” Smith tells NME.
“At some point I will have to say ‘this is it,’ otherwise we’ll just keep recording like we have done in the past,” he adds. “It never gets any better. We’re due one more session then we’re done.”
The new album will be the follow-up to 2008’s 4:13 Dream.
Along with working on new material, Smith and The Cure have also been reflecting on the past this year. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March, and in May, they played a batch of Australia shows in honor of Disintegration‘s 30th anniversary.
Additionally, a concert film capturing The Cure’s 2018 40th anniversary show will screen in theaters worldwide on July 11.
