
The Ozark Challenged Athletes traveled to Harding University in Searcy to participate in the Arkansas Special Olympics State Summer Games. The team, comprised of athletes from Baxter and Marion counties, competed several different events and took home 24 gold medals, 20 silver and 7 bronze medals.
The gold medal winners included Robin Imholtz, Dalton Doshier and Matthew Wiesboeck in the 100-meter dash; Kim Mann in the softball throw; Tommy Miller in the shot put; Nolan Quigel in the 100-meter walk; Evie Clements and Mark Freeman in the bench press, dead lift and combo; and Michele Corpe and Joshua Lewis in the dead lift and combo. In addition, the team of Miller, Patrick Cranston, Wiesboeck and Doshier took the gold in the 4×100-meter relay; and the team of Terry Don Roswell, Frankie Woods, Richard Buckbee and Porter Stanton captured the gold in bocce ball.
