The Mountain Home City Council will consider an ordinance directing and ordering removal or razing of a downtown motel when it meets in regular session Thursday evening at 6. The property at 411 South Main Street is the location of the Mountain Home Motel.

The ordinance is the lone item of business on the council’s agenda.

In a letter to property owner Brian Ferguson, Building Inspector Greg Ifland says the city has received multiple complaints on the motel due to the lack of maintenance and the building’s condition. He cites the property being in violation of city ordinance.

The ordinance authorizes the city to remove or raze any building that has become dilapidated, unsightly, unsafe, unsanitary, obnoxious or detrimental to the public welfare.

Ifland says in a quick drive-by inspection it was noted rotted and falling fascia boards are all around the building, along with falling gutters and rotted siding exposing the interior walls.

The letter notes Ferguson has 90 days to correct the cited violations and bring the property into compliance with city ordinances.

It goes on to say a follow-up inspection will be conducted in 90 days. If the issues have not been addressed, the city will begin condemnation to remove the building.

In addition to the letter, the council members’ packets contain numerous photos of the exterior conditions of the motel.

Thursday’s meeting will be held in the council chambers of the Municipal Building.
