The water main break first reported Friday evening by the Baxter-Marion Rural Water Association has been repaired. According to system president Mike Scrima, water service has been restored to residents in the Three Brothers, Promise Land and Oakland areas, but a boil water order has been issued for the entire system.
The main break was originally detected from the pump station at Midway to the tank on County Road 15 in Promise Land. The association was forced to shut the watter off to all of its customers, but it was turned back on around 1 p.m. Saturday.
Under the boil order, all affected customers are urged to briskly boil water used for drinking or food preparation for a minimum of one minute. All ice cubes should be discarded, and only boiled water should be used for making ice.
The boil water order will remain in effect until the problem is corrected, an adequate disinfected level is established throughout the distribution system, and a bacteriological survey shows the water is safe to drink.
