Treasurers report yet another positive sales tax collection month

Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize and Mountain Home Treasurer Rita Murray are reporting another positive month for sales tax collections for August, reflecting spending in June.

Mize says tourists generally help make collections in June and July good months for the county.

In addition, collections for the one-quarter percent sales tax dedicated to the Baxter County Detention Center were the highest since the first month in March. Collections in the most recent reporting period were $159,996.

Over at the City of Mountain Home, Murray says collections from the county were $191,904, up $5,568 or 3 percent from the prior year.

Proceeds from the city’s sales taxes received in August were $191,379, up $35,439 or a 22.73 percent increase from the prior year. Murray says to remember the Arkansas Department of Finance Administration was withholding funds until August of 2018 for a tax overpayment

Collections for the city’s public safety tax for the month were $165,409 up $26,579 a 19.14 percent increase from the prior year.

The Baxter County sales tax in divided among the county and the eight municipalities. In addition to Mountain Home, Gassville took in $32,035, Cotter received $14,953, Lakeview got $11,423, Norfork took in $7,877, Salesville received $6,937, Briarcliff had $3,638 and Big Flat’s share was $1,603.
