
This week’s headliner for the Mountain Home Friday Night Block Party and the fifth week of Super August is the jazz trio Coffey with Steve. Music and activities will begin at 7 on the courthouse square in downtown Mountain Home. The event is free to the public and all are welcome.Coffey With Steve is a group of friends sharing a love of jazz. The trio met at Steve Kuether’s recording studio, Panther Creek Recording, in 2005. Since then, they have filled the hills and hollers near Rush with jazz.
The jazz trio consistof Steve Kuether, piano; Kent Coffey, guitar; and Beci Coffey, bass and vocals.
Kuether was the musical director on the Showboat Branson Bell for many years and has shared the stage with such acts as B.B. King, Spyro Gyra, Taj Mahal, Leon Redbone and many others. He has composed and produced music for television, radio and film, as well as recording and producing many artists and groups at his Panther Creek Studio near Rush.
Kent Coffey learned to play jazz guitar from his good friend and mentor Gus Smith. He has enjoyed playing bluegrass and blues guitar for many years.
Beci Coffey developed a love of jazz at an early age from her mom, Doretha Shipman. The Coffeys tour playing bluegrass and make appearances on Branson Country USA.
This week’s block party is sponsored by Knox Orthopaedics.
A number of food vendors will be on hand selling their specialties, including barbecue, tacos, homemade cream soda, cupcakes, funnel cakes, kettle corn and lemonade, and the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society will be selling ice cream sundaes.
All attendees will have a chance to win door prizes during the band’s intermission.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs when they come out to enjoy what has become a summer tradition.
