Harrison voters will cast their ballots in a special Nov. 12 election for a proposed community center.
The Harrison City Council gave its approval to ordinances setting the stage for the vote in a meeting Aug. 22.
KYTV/KSPR reports the center would cost taxpayers $40 million, plus interest.
Voters will be asked to support a three-quarters of a 1 percent sales tax to develop and build the center and to repay the bonds needed for construction of the project. That would go away after the bonds are paid back.
A second proposal of a permanent one-quarter of a 1 percent sales tax will also be on the ballot for funding needed to maintain the facility.
The center would include an indoor pool, gym and meeting rooms.
City leaders say the proposed facility would be located off Gipson Road near the Boone County Airport.
Some questions remain unanswered, including the cost and structure of memberships.
Only registered voters living in the Harrison city limits will be able to vote on the proposals, since the extra sales taxes would only be in effect within the city.
