The Harrison City Council announced during its last meeting voters in the city will decide this fall on a sales tax proposal for the purpose of constructing a new community complex. On Tuesday, the Committee to Move Harrison Forward announced on Facebook a proposal for membership fees if the tax is passed.
For a 12-month membership, the proposed rates would be $240 for adults, $480 for a family of up to five members, $180 for youth ages 5 to 17 and $120 for seniors ages 65 and older. For a three-month membership, the rates would be $75 for adults, $135 for families, $60 for youth and $45 for seniors.
For regular monthly membership, the cost would be $30 for adults, $50 for families, $25 for youth and $20 for seniors. For citizens on the EBT card program, the low-income rates are $10 for adults, $15 for families and $5 for youth and seniors. Scholarship opportunities would also be available for qualifying low-income applicants.
Daily admission would be $5. Children under the age of 5 can get in free, but they must be accompanied by a paying adult. There is also a plan to offer Silver Sneaker and Silver and Fit programs that could further reduce the senior rates or eliminate the rates for qualifying members.
According to KYTV/KSPR, voters will be asked to support a three-quarters of a 1 percent sales tax to develop and build the center and to repay the bonds needed for construction of the project. That would go away after the bonds are paid back. A second proposal of a permanent one-quarter of a 1 percent sales tax will also be on the ballot for funding needed to maintain the facility.
The proposed facility would be located off Gipson Road near the Boone County Airport. The special election in Harrison is scheduled for Nov. 12.
