John Campbell was crowned the winner of the Big Creek Golf and Country Club Senior Men’s Match Play Club Championship. Campbell won the title match over Jimmy Mitchner 1-up.
The match was all square going into the final hole. Mitchner’s tee shot at the 18th ended up against the lip of a right-side fairway bunker leaving him with no shot at the green.
Campbell began with a first round bye as the second-seeded golfer. He beat Robbie Robbins in the quarterfinals and Randy Lunceford in the semifinals.
Mitchner, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, began by eliminating Joey Sample in the opening round and Randy Watkins in the quarterfinals. He later got past top-seeded Tommy Strickland 2-and-1 in the semifinals before getting edged out by Campbell.
