A Lakeview man will soon face new charges stemming from a fight he had with a jailer at the Baxter County Detention Center last month.Forty-six-year-old David Tiskus was originally charged with shooting at imaginary people he said were out to kill him and hitting a neighbor’s house in the process. The shooting incident took place in April last year at his residence in Lakeview.Charges associated with the earlier shooting incident were dropped and will be replaced with allegations stemming from the fight between Tiskus and 24-year-old Corporal Ethan Raymond of the jail staff. Tiskus is likely to receive more prison time on the new charges. When Tiskus was brought from prison to the county jail for a court appearance Aug. 21, he made it clear he did not want to be back in the Baxter County jail. He wanted to be returned to prison.

According to court records, Tiskus became more and more argumentative throughout the intake process. At one point, Corporal Raymond is reported to have told the inmate to stand so he could be handcuffed. Instead of doing as he was told, Tiskus “jumped to his feet.” He became increasingly combative and was said to have gotten in Raymond’s face and shouted profanities.

Tiskus is alleged to have hit Raymond a number of times, tried to choke him and stuck his thumb in the corner of the jailer’s left eye and attempted to gouge the eye out of its socket. He was also reported to have clawed at the jailer.

Another detention center staffer used a stun gun on Tiskus, and he was finally subdued and handcuffed.

According to a sheriff’s office incident report, Raymond approached Tiskus after the fracas to ask why the inmate had become disorderly and fought him. Raymond was said to have never had problems with Tiskus during past stays in the county jail.

Tiskus said he became angry because he did not want to be in the county jail and wanted to go back to prison. He is serving an 18-year prison sentence, after being convicted by an Independence County jury in May on charges stemming from a number of crimes. He is an inmate in the North Central Unit of the state prison system at Calico Rock.

According to 16th Judicial District Prosecutor Eric Hance, Tiskus was charged with breaking into two Batesville businesses in November 2017. At the time, Tiskus was reported to have also been in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine.
