A special event to benefit the Semper Fi Fund is coming up this month. The second annual Party on the Hill is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 79 Ashlynne Acre Lane in Theodosia.
The Semper Fi Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in May 2004. It’s purpose is to benefit the lives of young wounded service members from all military branches and their families during their hospital stays and their transition back home to their recovery. As of March, the fund has provided over $193 million in assistance to more than 22,000 wounded service men and women and their families.
Party organizer Debbie Daniel says she got involved with the Semper Fi Fund a few years ago when her son was at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Her son introduced her to retired Marine Corps Lieutenant General John Sattler who served on the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George W. Bush.

Daniel says she organized her first Semper Fi fundraiser at a racquet club in Overland Park, Kansas.

Live music will start at 4 p.m. and will feature two area bands. Inflexion is a classic rock band from Protem, and Michelle Ivey Jordan and Jeff Sadie make up “Branson’s Dynamic Duo.” Other bands include Kansas City-based Musivo, Nashville recording artist Luke Nassar and Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Mako.
Music and food are complimentary. The Happiest Hour will be from 4 until 6, with snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks being served. At 6:30, burgers and hot dogs will be cooked, and the El Morro Taco Truck will come in from Branson. A candy bar and dessert bar will also be available throughout the evening.
Other activities will feature yard games including cornhole, but Daniel says the most important part of the party is the live and silent auction since that’s how the funds will be raised.

There is no admission cost, but those looking to attend the Party on the Hill are being asked to RSVP as soon as possible by going to partyonthehill.org or by contacting Daniel at 913-940-1144. She says several have already signed up, and this year’s event will be capped at 400 attendees.
The Party on the Hill is sponsored locally by the Ozark County Times and Town and Country Supermarket in Gainesville and by Toner Jewelers in Overland Park, Kansas.
